Personal Projects - Art Nude Photography

7/3/2017

I decided to start taking art nude photographs because I wanted to show how all body shapes, sizes and ages can be beautiful. I want to get away from the ever increasing modern way of thinking that nudity automatically means sexual, seedy or pornographic.

With my work I am exploring form, light, contrast, shadows and shape. I aim to make beautiful abstract images worth of a gallery or even better, pride of place in your home. Would you share a nude image of you with your friends and family? Before you consider your answer to this question, look through the images in the slideshow below. Challenge the view that nudity is sexual and tell me how you feel after seeing the images in the comments.

Naked is liberating, naked is innocent, naked is normal!

What a great idea to reclaim the nude!

Thanks to the porn industry and now naked selfies, coupled with the ever increasing popularity of boudoir photography, the naked body, or scantily glad body has perhaps never been more sexualised than it is now, so your idea is a terrific one.

The images you have shown are all wonderful and really no one should have any embarrassment about sharing them in an ideal world. But sadly I think that nudity equals sex, or something naughty now seems so ingrained with most people it will be hard to breakdown those negative connotations.

So, would I share my nude photographs....... I would dearly love to say I would have that confidence and the courage of my convictions to do so (especially if they were that good) as we really shouldn't be embarrassed, especially when they are so tasteful and even those of Kevin, but I just don't know if I could.

Hi Andy,

thank you so much for your comments, :) I'm glad other people feel the same way I do.

Thank you so much for your kind words.

Do you think you would share nude photos of yourself if your face weren't in them? like the more abstract shots above?

You are very welcome.

Obviously not having my face showing would make it much easier to show or display nude photos of myself, as it gives that deniability the photos are not of me, if it was clear you were not going to get a favourable reaction.

However, that would be a shame to hide them away, so I guess it is about having the confidence to show them regardless as to whether you can be identified or not.

Hi Andy,

So would you feel more comfortable with a photo book that you can just show to those who you think would appreciate the photographs as art? You are giving me food for thought, thank you. :)

That would certainly be a good way of showing people and less obvious, compared with a piece of wall art for example, but I guess the danger is you leave the album hidden away, or perhaps that's just me due to shyness and embarrassment.

Sadly sharing something so personal is always tricky and we (I) complicate this by thinking far too much about should I or shouldn't I tell or show people.
